Description

Wood: Mulberry
Length: 14"
Grip: Suede and Jute Cord

This thorny looking wand evokes the tale of the death of Baldr. Baldr, also spelled Baldur or Balder, had a nightmare foretelling his death, so his mother Frigg traveled the nine worlds to convince every single thing to swear not to harm Baldr. They all did--except mistletoe. Loki, the god of mischief and chaos discovered this, and crafted a dart made of mistletoe with which to kill Baldr. The gods of the Aesir were celebrating Baldr's invincibility by striking him with axes, spears, and arrows to show how no harm could come to him. Loki gave the mistletoe dart to the blind god Hodur, and guided his hand, and thus used him to strike Baldr dead.

Mistletoe is a sacred plant to many cultures. It is poisonous, but can be used to cure as well. Its white berries are seen to represent life, even while it holds the power of death. This wand, with its jagged, thorny quality represents the sacred force of life and death, that essential mortality. It is made of mulberry wood, which like mistletoe is magically associated with protection and more specifically, protection from lightning. This wand represents the sacredness of life that must end. It is for striking, banishing, and bringing things to a close. It represents the force of mistletoe: not evil, but dangerous. It bears the rune Thurisaz, or thorn, with is directed force. It needs to be used judiciously. Loki used it poorly, for mischief, but it can also be used to protect, to heal, and to cleanse. Use it wisely.

Absolutely beautiful, I love the meaning to it. Almost resembles a deer antler... Incredible work!
